You ever wonder what compels actors to make their choices? Netflix’s We Have a Ghost looks like a cute if goofy little movie, a story about a family that moves into a haunted house and makes their ghost an internet star while trying to solve his murder. Okay! Sure! Sounds` nice, I guess, in a family friendly sort of way!

But nice enough to star Anthony Mackie, David Harbour, Jennifer Coolidge, and Tig Notaro?

One can only assume the main draw was director Christopher Landon, who also directed Paranormal ActivityHappy Death Day, and Freaky. Landon is also We Have a Ghost’s screenwriter; he adapted the movie from Geoff Manaugh’s short story “Ernest.”

Ernest is the name of the ghost, played by Harbour in full physical comedy mode (apparently ghosts can’t talk, but can inconsistently interact with physical objects). Here’s the synopsis:

Finding a ghost named Ernest haunting their new home turns Kevin’s family into overnight social media sensations. But when Kevin and Ernest go rogue to investigate the mystery of Ernest’s past, they become a target of the CIA.

Jahi Winston plays Kevin, and Isabella Russo plays the neighbor who teams up with him to help solve Ernest’s mystery. Notaro gets her Scully on as the government agent who wants to go full Ghostbusters on poor Ernest; Coolidge is a medium who gets more ghost action than she bargained for.

We Have a Ghost begins haunting Netflix on February 24th.
